As we begin to share this time together, we let go of tension and enjoy easy, active and creative expression through movement, without having to learn steps or trying to keep up in a class. Then, we will start to take note of the facial, gestural and postural movement of ourselves and others. And, in the process, we will become more aware of our own nonverbal communication style (with a vocabulary to describe it).
As we become better observers of the dynamic qualities of our movement in interactions, we begin to better see and understand our own nonverbal behavior and that of others. Then, by developing an observing sense of self, we are better prepared to be present in the moment with our clients, and can assist and support them in expressing themselves safely and authentically. In this time together, we will be actively engaged in movement expression.
Methods of learning and instruction: active participation in movement experiences; observation of nonverbal behavior; application of skills in practice; and interactive discussions with peers and presenter; demonstration; video presentation (when appropriate); and lecture.
The learning objectives include:
• increase understanding of the dynamic qualities of movement; and
• improve observation of one’s own and others’ nonverbal behavior.
